using XML files in Macrium Reflect
using Macrium Reflect version 5.0, build 4620
I have reviewed tutorials in this forum and searched the help section of Macrium before beginning this thread. Instructions and images in the tutorials I have viewed appear to address a previous version. I have only a basic understanding of how backup and restore programs operate. As for XML files... I only understand the definition.
During the process of creating an image in Macrium, the choice is offered whether or not to create an XML file. If it is opted to use the XML file, a location must be chosen. The default location is C:\users\<user_name>\documents\reflect.
My normal mindset when performing a task using a program that is new to me is to use the default options if I cannot determine how or why to choose one of the available options. I make changes later if I find a reason to do so. For this reason I chose to use the default settings with the exception of the image target location. I chose an external drive to save the backups.
now, a few questions begging for the hows and whys of configuration:
1) Is using the XML files my best option to provide a reliable image to restore if it becomes necessary?
2) Should the XML files be stored in the default location or on the external drive? If the external drive is the better choice, should they be in the same folder as the image or a different folder?
3) Why is one option better than another?
Thanks for your replies.
