    use windows backup W7(RC) -> W7(Pro)

    Is there any way for me to use the image generated from windows backup using Windows 7 RC build 7100 with a new installation of windows 7 pro?

    I want to upgrade to the actual pro edition... but is there any way i can have all my installed apps and such ready to go (using that image file or any other program suggestions?)

    Thanks

    Yep there is and its called an upgrade instead of a clean install. Its not recommended but it is do'able. You cant use the backup to restore but you can upgrade 7100 to 7600 without having to re-install the apps. just make sure you buy the correct version

    How about Windows easy transfer for your settings & apps.

    as the rc 7100 was more than likely the ultimate version - you will have to perform a fresh install of rtm pro.

    Doc's idea is the best solution in these circumstances

    Nigel brought up a really good point. If your 7100 is ultimate and the 7600 you buy has to be ultimate if you want to upgrade.

    Thanks Nigel

    Yeah the thing is I get Windows 7 Pro for free through MSDNAA (I'm an IT major at FSU) so you're right... it's the RC version of Ultimate switching over to pro... so that sounds like a headache...

    I'll have to check out windows easy transfer see if that will do what I'm looking for... honestly 99% of the time I wind up doing a clean install and reinstalling all my apps and such anyway.... figured I'd see if there was an easier way to do it

    Thanks everyone

    is there a way to install the RC(and activate it) as the Home premium version of the RC instead of the Ultimate version of the RC? I know you can edit the ei.cfg file but the RC keys only work for ultimate RC.

    I have pre-ordered home premium upgrade and had planned to upgrade the RC to them instead of wasting effort to install the previous os. MS said it would work to update and there seems to be no Ultimate upgrade available, especially when MS announced it.
