i need a back up software like nero back it up

i used to use nero back it up, it was just perfect, when i am on it, it displays a folder tree, i just select which i want to back up, i select the whole user folder and that's it, the software it ask me where do i want to sae it, if i choose a HDD it will create one or two files, one the main file and the other the index or something like that, or if i wanted to save it to save it to DVD's, no problem, the software tells me how many dvds i am going to need and thats its it just ask me for each DVD, one by one until it finish burning them all. if i want my data back, i just go to the index file (the last dvd, and open ALL the data i have backup, i select the files i want, and the software only ask me which dvd to insert, he will extract it for me.

the problem is that in windows7 nero back it up throw some errors while selecting files, AND when installing nero, it ask for directx9, many says that it does not overwrite the directx11 that came with win7 but IT DOES because despite the dxdiag still says directx 11 is installed, there is a decrease in video performance on games.. a

so what back up software you recommend me?

i have reviewed several ones on google, i decide to try comodo back up, but i don't like it, i want a back up folder that show me my files EXACTLY as they are contained in my user folder, where it let me choose with a simple mark which one go or not to be backed up, and to save in a simple (uncompressed could be, i don't care) or few files, and if it offer the option to split, even better

i already mention it but the folder tree feature at the moment of the backup and restore is very important, because if there is a folder with less important data like... internet videos.. i dont want that folder but since it's within an important folder how do i chose a backup without THAT folder, adding it one by one?

I would have just copied and pasted the files and folders on another disk that I wanted backed up or burned them on a CD/DVD.

great.. but if you have to burn about 20 dvds.. how you know where is that specific file you need?

with nero backitup you just select all the files and folders to be backed up, the software calculate the amount of dvds, for restoring, only insert the last dvd then he will ask for the dvd containing the file/folder you want, but the software will restore it to the designated location with only inserting the dvd.

i find a pretty close solution in ashampoo, but have some "things" i dont know why is that way, example, it'd doesnt show the size of the files i am backing up..., and it's incredible slow selecting files, i dont know WHY if its only selecting files

True Image has a file backup option, but I have never used it, so I can't vouch for it.

I have burned over 150 DVDs in the last two years. Backing up on DVD has the advantage that it is a more permanent back up than on any other media and if done properly lasts for decades without the fear of failure.

Because of its permanence if I have backed something on a DVD, I delete the files from the hard disk except for a very few that I use frequently. Therefore everything that is remaining on the disk needs to be backed up by burning on DVDs/CDs.

The files that you need to burn are all on the HD and you should find them there. If you do the burning regularly then soon the number in the queue should dwindle from 20 to 1 or 2. As for keeping track of the burned files I use a shareware application named WhereIsIt? that pinpoints the CD/DVD on which it is located in seconds and then I can pull it out in no time from my burned media collection. However like every other activity some effort is required on my part to keep things organised.

But then every computer user has his/her way of backing up the data and one man's meat may be another person's poison.

    i agree with you!

in my case, this is how i do!

i switch from a desktop to a laptop (i never imagine that i would do that, cause i never like laptops) because due power concerns (my house is powered with solar power, and 700watts vs 70watts for a pretty decent laptop......) since that i use the laptop only for runing programs and small amount of personal files (about 15gb (with a little music, videos and pics) and i have an external hdd with my data, (my 10years of computer data is there).
Then i do two backups, one for the laptopp and another for the external hdd, the one for the external hdd, since i do little change in the data contained there (the file i use the most are in the laptop and so in the laptop's backup)

i have about 50dvds of backup and about 5dvds for the laptop's backup, i have needed that backup only twice, and the second was a month ago with only about 20 photos lost due an old backup (4 months old) thats fair, i got about 99.8% of my precious data.

thats why i am looking for a software like nero backitup, i have been busy these days and i thing i'll have chance to test nerobackitup 3 (i dont understand the 4). because the old one i had (the 2 i thing) come with the whole nero package and ask me for the directx 9, and dont want to recognize directx 11.

i appreciate a lot your help guys, i'll let you know how was it wth backitup3

thumbs up for optical disk backups!
(iam planing switch to BD only for backup purpose, what you guys think, reliability is the only i want to know about it, compared with DVD, how is it?)
