Does anyone else feel like Restore points don't actually work?

Recently had a virus and Windows restore did not bring my computer back to its operational level of a week ago? Am I the only one that feels this way or are my expectations way off?

Hello Frognation, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It depends on what you trying to restore. A restore point is limited to only the registry, programs, drivers, and system files. It has no affect on user files and folders.

Some things to remember. Once you get a virus and remove it all is not well. A virus could of installed it's self in restore points also. I would not use those restore points because of that. Once you get rid of the virus all the damage and system changes the virus could of made need repaired. Windows 7 restore points work quiet well but they are not designed to help repair virus attaches. They can be infected.

To answer your question, sometimes yea. It seems as if the problem is still there right?

It really does depend on what the original issue was. As mentioned, for the most part they work well - but add a virus as the cause and all bets are off.

A system image made when all was well with the computer would have brought the system back to a clean state. That could be thought of as the ultimate System Restore for when a virus strikes.

An old post; I feel that they don't work. I reinstalled my system from recovery disc "d:\" and there is no way to make a restore point restore anything, or work successfully, in win7 Home Premium.

I've tried everything, I can find an answer.

I uninstall Norton 360 and it still won't work.
I don't have Nero(some have blamed Nero), I used safe mode.
    No viruses
