    System Restore isn't functioning - Error 0x80070570

I have tried to do a system restore to a point previously in order to help with another problem, but get the message 'Can't system restore, file or directory is corrupted and unreadable (0x80070570).'

This applies to all restore points available. I have tried System Repair, but that found nothing.

Can anyone please advise what can be done?

Well, a shot in the dark. Have you tried doing the restore while in Safe Mode?

Another thing that may help is running sfc /scannow in an elevated command prompt:

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You could also try running Chkdsk on your windows partition.

Open Computer and right click on the C: drive. Select properties and the tools tab on the dialogue.
Press the Check now button. Make sure the Automatically fix errors box is checked.
Press Start. You will get a message that Windows cant check the disk while in use.
Press the Schedule disk check button and Ok out of the properties dialogue.
Restart your computer and during boot a disk check will run. This will take some time.

That's a shame. You mentioned you had another problem but don't say what it is. They may be connected.

Here you go kado897: Sometimes when I copy (right clicking) text from MS Word to MS Outlook (Office 2007), instead of copied text I get a small icon of envelope with a lock pasted . When carrying out the copy and paste operation, having pasted and got the envelope, if I delete this envelope, go back and repeat the copy process with right clicking as before, when I paste, it works!

I have run malware progs, again to no avail.

I don't have outlook so I don't know how it should behave. I know that when pasting into word you have various option one of which is plain text with no formatting, perhaps Outlook has something similar. It doesn't sound like it is related to your SR problem though. I'm a bit stuck so I will ask for help.

Thanks for this info guys, and glad to say that I appear to have cured the problem. I deleted the restore points which wouldn't work, disable my antivirus and created a new system restore point, which then worked. So I'm now keeping my figers crossed, although I still have my copy/paste problem.

    Thanks again.

Go to know it's sprted. It may be worth while starting a separate thread in the Microsoft Office section on your copy/paste problem. It is more likely to be picked up by the knowledgeable there.
