Win7 reset to Windows Vista after system recovery

Hello, I am Tj. I recently bought a computer from someone that had windows 7 on it. It was an HP pavillion computer that came with windows vista and a windows 7 CD. He installed windows 7 on it... Before buying it, I ran a system recovery to reset the system to factory settings so it would get rid of all of his junk on it, and it reset the OS to windows vista SP1 (64-bit). He couldn't find the win7 CD that came with it. I really do NOT like this OS. I have encountered some gaming incompatibility, I couldn't run netflix on firefox because silverlight was incompatible... and I really just don't like the feel of it, and I think it may even be giving me performance problems (I have an i7 1st gen processor and 3GB of trichannel RAM)

Please help me out here, how can I get windows 7 back? =_= Do I really need to go and buy it if he can't find the CD? Because it will be quite a while before I can, especially considering I still have about $200 in modifications that I need to do to this comp :/

    Thanks a load,
    -Tj

Did the computer come with Vista and a Windows 7 DVD? Or, did your friend buy Windows 7 separately?

If the computer came installed with Vista (which I'm sure it did, since you got Vista when you did a restore action), and your friend can't find the Windows 7 install DVD and key, then yes - you have to buy Windows 7.

Have your friend contact HP and request a Windows 7 DVD + a new key. If he pleads his case, he might get lucky enough to get replacements.
