I can't back up my Windows 7 Home Premium

I was trying to backup my OS by using the tutorial method given

Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Every time I clicked the create a system image link, the command prompt appears for a second and then disappears. Nothing was run and no UAC appear.

    What is the problem?

    Thanks

Hello entinggi and welcome to Seven Forums.

The most common cause of a quick flash of the command prompt screen after clicking a link is that the program is reporting an error of some sort. It could be your computer has damaged or corrupt system files. Run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If any problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan. Post back the results.

    Welcome to SF! entinggi

I have to agree with marsmimar there that the volume is considered "dirty" by way of errors being found on the drive. Besides the System File Checker another tool to run would be the Disk Check tool. To schedule that for a run simply right click on the drive's icon in Windows Explorer and open the Tools tab in the properties screen. Under error checking click on the Check Now button.

At the command you would type "chkdsk /r" to see it scheduled to run the next time the system starts up or after a restart. It will run for several minutes as the tool scans and attempts to repair any errors found. Once you have run them both see how the next attempt goes for you.

You may try an alternative, if you like.

    Imaging with free Macrium

Western Digital and Seagate alike provide free versions of Acronis True Image which was found to be a far better choice. Seagate rebranded their version as the Disk Wizard tool.

The problem with not being able to run the system image backup tool however is certainly an OS problem that has to be solved since the option is generally been found reliable when Windows is running normally. The full version of Acronis True Image on the other for a 3rd party program will save on drive space for new images as well as offering the oiption for mounting an image as a second virtual C drive to add new files into an existing image.

When looking at the free Reflect tool by Macrium however a simple drive letter change resulted in seeing a good image made invalid? Yet the Windows restore option as well as Acronis both tool an image when browsed to and restored it without issue.

The first thing now however would be getting the Windows option working. You will want any new image to be one in good shape to start with not flawed with any OS errors.

    entenggi,
When complete please upload the sfcdetail.txt file mentioned in that tutorial IF errors were found that couldn't be fixed.

At seeing this I would suggest starting a new thread in the Crashes and Debugging section as well as attaching the dump file. Let someone go over the dump file with you. You will want to read the posting instructions first however. https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html
