    (hd0) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,msdos7) (hd1,msdos6) (hd1,msdos5) (hd1,msdos2) (hd1,msdos1)

    ls (hd1,msdos2)/
    ./ ../ lost+found. etc/ media/ bin /boot/ dev /home /lib /lib64 /mnt /opt/ proc/ root/ run/ sbin/ selinux/ srv/ sys/ tmp/ usr/ var/ vmlinuz initrd.img

Looks like (hd1,msdos2) is Linux partition?

msdos7 and the others are linux as well?
part of grub config you attached

    menuentry 'LinuxMint, with Linux 3.2.0-23-generic' --class linuxmint --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
    recordfail
    gfxmode $linux_gfx_mode
    insmod gzio
    insmod part_msdos
    insmod ext2
    set root='(hd0,msdos7)'
    search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root c44d0292-2966-4537-bbe8-4603b3de2c48

    Not according to grub rescue?

    grub rescue> ls (hd1,msdos7)/

    returns

    error: unknown filesystem

There is no (hd0,msdos7) entry when typing ls. The only hd0 entry is (hd0,msdos1)

OK. I tried several combinations of ls (hd0,msdos1)/ etc., each one returned unknown filesystem until I did this:

    Code:
    ls (hd1,msdos2)/
    Code:
    ./ ../ lost+found. etc/ media/ bin /boot/ dev /home /lib /lib64 /mnt /opt/ proc/ root/ run/ sbin/ selinux/ srv/ sys/ tmp/ usr/ var/ vmlinuz initrd.img
Thus, (hd1, msdos2) is the Linux partition, correct?
    Code:

     ls (hd1,msdos2)/boot/grub/core.img
    ls (hd1,msdos2)/boot/grub2/core.img
    ls (hd1,msdos2)/grub/core.img
    ls (hd1,msdos2)/grub2/core.img
