There may be a service or two that could be disabled, but I'd just not use it---rather than trying to disable it.

Are you trying to get rid of the system and file backup capability only---or also the System Restore capability?

Lets try this. Creating a Restore Point is not the same as creating a Back Up. It's not a thing, it's two things. Tell us what is happing that you don't want and if you could the reasoning behind your desire to disable them. Information like this will help us help you. What are you trying to accomplish? Backups only happen when you tell a program to complete a Backup. Their are many things that create a Restore Point.

Windows 7 automatically creates a backup and constantly reminds me to save it to an external resource. I have an on-line backup (Carbonite) and so I have no need for the Win 7 Backup and Restore. (At least I don't see the need for it!)

I found another source where I downloaded a file and made a register change which presumably disables it. I hope it works!

    Thank you!

Check your Task Scheduler and see if you have Windows 7 Scheduled to do back ups. Carbonite might be using Windows 7 Schedule to send backups to them. I don't really know how Carbonite works but it's worth a look.
