    W7 RC build 7100 - Backup freezes at 7%

    Hi all,

for the last week i've had issues with the native backup on W7.

IT gets to around 7% and then just freezes.

The action centre flag keeps saying backup in progress, but i've left it all night and come back the next morning and it's still at 7%

I've got a 500gb drive which I use for backups and other stuff and it's got enough capacity. I have deleted the old windows backup folder on it and still no joy.

I look at 'show details' and all I get is yet another bigger progress bar with 'creating a shadow copy' as the only information.

Do I have a corrupt file perhaps?

Done a virus scan and nothing.

Can anybody shed any light on this?

several things you can check. First in in event viewer (type event viewer in search) see if there are any problems listed that are relevant to the backups and if they are snip a pic and upload. second we need some more info abt the setup like are you backing up from an internal drive to an external usb drive, etc

Let us know what you find

Ken, i've opened event viewer and I'm really at a loss as to what to do next

Where do you suggest I look?

I found the backup folder but all events seem OK, however there was one folder with critical errors relating to shutdown/ boot events ????

I was going to do an easy transfer backup and go with a clean install again as I had planned to have a go at an OSx86 setup (love the banner btw)

Coming from a mac background to this, I really have no clue on the inner workings of MS windows

    setup is as follows:

    System discs - 2 discs in raid 0 for a total of 600gb (488gb free of 558gb
    Backup disc - 500gb disc (325gb free of 465)

I have two other 250gb volumes sitting empty in the chassis, and a 70gb usb drive. Would you suggest backing up to one of these?

I performed an image backup, and also an easy transfer backup and they were lightning quick - just finished a few minutes ago. So somehow it seems to be only the actual backup function itself - which I think is pretty useless anyway.

Well, I disabled the backup schedule in backup centre, and this morning it still shows a backup in progress in the action centre. Roll on RTM - I feel a clean install coming on!
