Image Restore failed to restore my XP drive

I followed Brink's procedure [Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup to the letter & it appeared to create a system image of my DUAL BOOT system on an external hard drive. But to be confident I decided to restore the image on a single empty hard drive. The "image restore" only restored the WINDOWS 7 drive. I have my XP system on a separate drive. The DUAL BOOT system works fine & creating a system image went fine after some aggravating contentious bouts with the "shadow" partition. That is a CLEAR eyesore on Microsoft.

When I do my "image restore" the dialog box clearly indicates that images of drives C, D, & E will be restored. In the end it gives a message that the E drive is not restored without any indication of a reason.

Is there a workaround? I am currently attempting to put WINDOWS 7 on a separate partition on the same drive as XP so hopefully I can get the "image restore" to work that way. Again I am wrestling with the "shadow" partition issue on this drive as well.

    Any suggestions?

You should consider using a different Imaging program such as Macrium Reflect (free or paid).
You will have much more control and can choose which partition(s) to include in a backup or restore.

I use Acronis True Image and only include 1 partition (OS) in each Backup Image.
You can get a free version of Acronis from the HD manufacturer site if you have a WD or Seagate HD.

Here is a tutorial by whs for Macrium.
