what's the best order?

hey, what is the best order, the first thing to do once i buy a new pc, 1.create a boot disc? 2. system restore 3. backup data (well i wouldn't have any data to backup when i first buy so count that one out), and last can i store backups and system restores on the same external hard drive? thanks

Windows 7 Ult. x64

If the computer comes with Windows pre-installed, then you should:

1. Create recovery disks
2. Enable virus/firewall protection (don't attempt to combine anti-virus products)
3. Create a system image and rescue (boot disk) for the image
4. Create data backups as you proceed

In that order.

System restore points? will probably be setup by default, so no need to tamper with that, although you should check it.

System restore points? are not stored externally - perhaps you are referring to system images? If so, then yes, images and backups can be stored to a single external device provided it is large enough.

Is there any logic to this order?
I've watched this a while and wonder if there is any order to how people appear in this list? Obviously you are always first, but I notice over the course of several hours that peoples position in the order shift around. So, what is the ordering based on? Golden
