Restore points are wiped out when computer shuts down

I purchased one of the family 3pack Windows 7 disc for my family. I installed it on two computers but on one when I create a restore point on the computer it remains as long as I do not shut the computer down. Once the computer shuts down the restore point goes away and when trying to restore to a previous saved restore point all it says is that no restore points have been created. This is the first computer or I should say operating system I have had this problem. My question is since I can not find a fix if I have to reinstall Windows 7 from my three pack disc will it recognize the copy on my computer and just reinstall it or will it use my last remaining issue on that disc that has not been used? Thanks for any help.

Hello Scottie and welcome to Seven Forums.

You may find an answer here to the restore point issue.

What To Do About Missing Windows 7 Restore Points « IT Expert Voice

If you have to reinstall Windows 7, you should not have any problems re-activating and not have to use the last remaining activation (he says hopefully and with fingers crossed.) When you originally activated that copy of Windows 7 by entering the 25-digit Product Key, a unique "hardware hash" was created based on the hardware installed on that specific computer. The hardware hash takes into account the various manufacturers, hardware serial numbers, amount of RAM installed, etc. As long as the hardware hash is recognized as being the same as originally created, re-activation should proceed without a hitch. If by some chance it doesn't re-activate, you could also contact Microsoft directly via telephone support and provide them the 3 pack details.

    Restore Points not retained

Thank you marsmimar for the information. I did not know about the hashing but my computer has not had any hardware changes so I figure things should work out just fine. Thanks again.
