Which volume of Truecrypt for media backup HDD?

I want to use Truecrypt to encrypt my main backup HDD for my media & OS HDD's (which are two separate drives as it is)

For this back up drive, do I want to "Create an encrypted file container" (Creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file)

    or

"Encrypt a non-system partition/drive"? (Encrypts a non-system partition on any internal or external drive (e.g. a flash drive) Optionally creates a hidden volume)

I would say the "Encrypt a non-system partition/drive" since it's an external drive I only plug into my computer to perform backups & then unplug it properly when I'm done.

The only purpose of this backup HDD is to store in a safe place all data on computer in case my computer HDDs crash, so the entire HDD is available for encryption & backup. Ideally I want to encrypt the entire HDD, not just a partition of it.

    Hi,

Either will work - I prefer to use the Encrypted volumes/containers. Use this as a guide if you choose the same option:

    TRUECRYPT - Encrypt Data Folders
