Whenever I open my pc it says that my pc did not start properly; so, I restart it but I end up with a black screen. I tried most of the options but it did not work; so, I wanted to try doing a system restore. However, I can't because it says I must enable system protection on this drive. I read Green18's problem and it sounds similar to mine so I was trying to do the steps that you have posted; but, I am having a problem with the step on #28.
I am unsure what the codes do. I was following what was posted.
So I had the same problem with my computer, restart error, no image to restore too and the root error giving the same exact message.
Did the
ren default default.bak
ren sam sam.bak
ren security security.bak
ren software software.bak
ren system system.bak
copy RegBack\*.*
Rebooted, and it worked. However do not have any access to my keyboard or keypad since.
Did I accidentally delete some drivers that are needed somehow?
Tried also plugging in a mouse but didn't work either.
Any help would be appreciated
Just before the RegBack trick the mouse and keyboard were still working fine in win7?
keyboard, mlouse, keypad.... are all usb I assume?
Can't you communicate with computer whatsoever? I think usb drivers are damaged (?) What happens if you attach a usb stick or external drive? Do you see that new hardware is attached?
The external mouse is USB however the keyboard and keypad are standard. I just plugged in the external mouse to see if it would work. The standard keyboard and trackpad were working fine before the RegBack. Did some searching and it seems like my model UX31E has keyboard and trackpad problems and a standard fix is taking off the back and tightening the lose component.
Kinda perplexed by this
Also forgot to add only communication I can do with the computer is turn on power then it goes to login screen. However when I force shutdown and it gives options to start in safe mode or regular I hit enter and it works? Weird, then I get to the sign in screen and can't use either. When USB is plugged in it doesn't show any thing
So usb keyboard is still work in boot menu Advanced Boot Options , is that correct?
"When USB is plugged in it doesn't show any thing"... what would you expect to see?
Oh no, the keyboard isn't USB it's just the standard laptop keys. The only thing I had plugged in was the mouse, however it didn't respond to that either. When in the startup screen for boot options safe mode w/ networking etc I can select start windows regularly with the enter key. Just weird it doesn't work once it boots all the way
So you did something like Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery ?
Folder C:\windows\system32\config has these files? what is rhe date time of the files, and all are larger then 200000 bytes?
The DEFAULT, SAM and SECURITY files should each be about 262,000 bytes in size.
- DEFAULT
- SAM
- SECURITY
- SOFTWARE
- SYSTEM
The SOFTWARE file should be about 26,000,000 bytes.
The SYSTEM file should be about 9,900,000 bytes.
The file sizes presented here are approximate estimations, and may vary depending on your system. If any one of them are 0 bytes, then you should stop what you're doing now and seek an alternative method of recovering your system, because Windows cannot function with a 0-byte size registry hive.
