    yep, checked the registery previously
there are 5-profiles, the first 3 as listed in the link above, the fourth is my named user account (the admin name I use, working fine), and a fifth updatususer (don't know, but seems to be standard system entry). there is not one for "administrator" as the error log indicates.
    all about updatususer

what is the updatususer account in my accounts for my Windows 7 Home - Microsoft Community

yes, c:users\administrator exists; no c:users\administrator\desktop does not exist (as stated, only one folder c:users\administrator\appdata existed).

Strange it does exist at all!! Someone has ever logged otherwise it doesn't exit. But then you should have more folders.

    In elevated command prompt
    Code:
    Net user administrator /active:yes
    logon under that account. works?

thanks, yes I've read the microsoft kb pages above...couldn't quite digest them, but now what I've done is create what I guess are somehow missing folders under 'administrator' user folder and see if that solves the first bunch of errors (as per scenario 2 resolution in the link above).
the last error (scenario 1 in the link above) doesn't seem to make sense, since the offending folder 'podcast' is there, but empty...no custom folders as in the scenario 1 cause. so not sure how to remedy this.

I should have stated, the machine was just serviced by samsung (new hard drive, only 1+month old computer go figure).
when replacing hard drive, they did something like take an image of the old drive to preserve microsoft signature installation of windows 7 (I had purchased the computer from microsoft retail store, and understand this edition to be much faster). so, could it be a legacy of that image perhaps when I first turned-on the brand new machine a month ago, and could it not be there now? if so, could I just delete it (instead of adding the missing folders to trick windows backup)?
of course, one is always afraid to delete something 'administrator', but as stated I already have set-up an admin account under my own name so then does the 'administrator' user become unnecessary, I wonder?

Built-in administratot is always a good thing to have. You an use it if your account is corrupt. Are you doing a system image backup or normal file backup? Have you linux on system, or ever had linux. It can be a GRUB problem
