Re-Imaging From An External To An SSD

I have created a system image of my Windows 7 OS from my HDD onto my external hard drive. The image is about 250GB and the new SSD is 500GB.

When I try and run the system repair (restore a system image) from the external HDD to the new SSD, I get error error 0x80042412.

I've tried literally everything, I've tried to create a new partition; didn't work. I tried a fresh install onto the SSD before migrating the system image; didn't work. There are a lot of similar threads that I have previously read through but none of the solutions have helped.

Thanks for your help in advance guys.

I've already been through that tutorial, followed it down to the line and yet I still end up with an error.

I'm not willing to pay out for software when the method I'm using should work.

See if this freeware from Paragon will work for you:

Thanks for that, got it all transferred now.

One more question though; I want to store all of the User data on my HDD rather than on the SSD so how do I configure my settings so that the libraries automatically save and load using the HDD rather than the SSD?

First make a folder on HDD as placeholder of the new stuff. For example F:\yourname

    Then in explorer goto %userprofile%

    Then cut/paste folders from %userprofile% to F:\yourname
    Contacts
    Desktop
    Documents
    Downloads
    Favorites
    Links
    Music
    Pictures
    Saved Games
    Searches
    Videos
(Some folders have "My" as prefix). Cut/paste ... not copy!!

Do the same for C:\users\public (public music/documents etcetera). Not all folders listed above are there! Put them in F:\Public for example

    All libraries are updated automagically.

    Don't do the appdata/tracing/libraries folders!

Great tutorial... but cut/paste works as well and is much easier
