Does the "Put the computer to sleep" interfere with system backup?

    Hello,

Does the "Put the computer to sleep" setting interfere with a system backup? My current setting is 20 minutes.

    1. If my system backup is running and I do not "touch" the computer in 20 minutes, the computer is suppose to go to sleep. Will the sleep cycle cause the backup to stop or put on hold until I touch the keyboard again?

    2. If the compute is in "sleep mode", will this stop the backup from starting?

    Thanks,

    Stu

I dare not to say but in the past as I was scanning for viruses. My system was put to sleep and I pressed any button to switch on the system, only to cancel the almost complete scan as the cursor was located at the cancel button. 3 hours or more scan time had to be restarted from null.

Sleep mode will interfere with a system backup. A computer that is in a sleep state isn't running. Everything that was running at the time it was put to sleep is held in RAM until it is wakened up again. It's possible the backup will resume where it left off when put to sleep but I wouldn't count on it.

I use a small app called Don't Sleep when I do a Backup. It will prevent your PC from going to sleep, shut off, stops the screensaver and more. You can find it here:

    Download Don't Sleep 2.99

Dude, how did you get Don't Sleep to stop sleep during backup and then turn back off again. The software is nice and it is free, but it comes with no manual or instructions at all! There is a new version and can be found here: Don't Sleep

There seems to be no option to attach it to any particular program so how did you set it up to work like this? Thanks.

From what I read on the website, it's just a timer that blocks sleep, hibernate, etc., depending on how you set it, for a time period that you specify. It doesn't have to attach to any program because you activate it manually.

Yeah that's what I thought. The entire point of automatic backup is so that it gets done. Not because someone remembers to run it every week. So much for Don't Sleep.
