    System Restore failed yesterday

I tried to undo a blunder I made with my IDT Audio (that seems to have fixed itself by rolling back driver and reinstalling from Dell CD), and got the following:

System restore did not complete successfuly. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.

    Details;
System restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point.

    Source %SystemRoot%\registration
    Destination: ComPlusStaging

You can try System Restore again and choose a different restore point. If you continue to see this error, you can try an advanced reovery method. For more information see What is recovery.

I tried System Restore under Normal Windows mode, Safe Mode, Safe Mode With Networking, and Repair System Prompt. ALL SAID SAME THING. What is going on? Help please.

Try with your AntiVirus Program turned off.

Already did that too. AVG was off.

Then it looks like a corrupted restore point. For the future I suggest to make periodic images. That is safer.

Mak a new restore point manually. Try to restore to that restore point. Works?

I have the same problem. The system will not maintain a restore point. I set one manally and it registers that it is set but if I try to use it there is no restore point.

    Any help please?

Even if you try to do system restore 5 minutes later, or even immediately?
Do you have dual boot with linux/winxp for example?

Yes, exactly. I entered a restore point of today's date.
System said the point was established. I logged off and
logged back on 5 minutes later and there was no restore
point. I am just using Mozilla on Windows 7.
