Attempt backup to external hard drive, receive error code 0x8031004A
I recently tried to do a backup onto a WD external hard drive. When I tried to perform the backup, it did not complete successfully. I received the message: "BitLocker Drive Encryption cannot be used because critical BitLocker system files are missing or corrupted. Use Windows Startup Repair to restore these files to your computer". The error code for this was 0x8031004A. I since startup repair would not start automatically, I used a previously created system repair disc to induce startup repair. Startup repair, however, did not find any problems that needed fixing. Is there any way someone can help me out with this? I've been unable to find a solution anywhere else.

I've already been to the second webpage and tried both solutions, neither of which did anything. When I try to go deal with the BitLocker there aren't any buttons to click on, and from everything I've seen when I go to look up what to do, there are supposed to be buttons there. But that seems like a whole other problem altogether. It also may be where my backup- problem is coming from. Thanks though!

External backup hard drive I back up all my changed folders (usually 2 or 3) every evening to an external hard drive. Is it advisable to have the ext. HD plugged into the laptop all the time , or should I plug it in just for the backup operation which never takes more than 2 or 3 minutes? Thanks in advance. |
