    Help needed after failed system re-image


    My hard drive has been coming up with an error message saying I should back up my files for some time now, so I purchased a replacement drive in order to order to use a system image on. When making the system image, it twice failed with the error code 0x800070002, but on the third attempt it worked. When I began to apply the image to the new drive using a recovery disk however, it failed with this same error message.

    Now whenever I try to boot up with the new drive I get the error message 0xc000000f telling me that I need to insert the Windows 7 disk. I have tried to so as at this stage I would be fine to just do a clean installation on the new hard drive but due to the failed system re-image, the windows disk will not boot. It seems to attempt to load the disk but just cycles back to the same error screen. I can still boot the recovery disk but this seems of little help.

    I would be very grateful for any assistance that could be offered to me here, whether it be how to somehoe do the clean install of windows with my new HD or ideally how to successfully do the re-imaging if it is at all possible.

    I would recommend a clean install


    To Boot from DVD or CD; depending on what laptop you have there should be a way to bring up a custom boot menu that will allow you to choose the optical drive. (For instance Asus uses the ESC key). If you can't get that boot menu please post the model of your machine. Also make sure no peripheral devices are connected when you try this.

    Thanks. I have set the dvd drive as the first boot option by pressing F2, but still it will not load the windows 7 installation disk, only the recovery disk. Is there a way to restore the new and obviously now corrupted HD to factory settings via the recovery disk?

    My guess is it is a bad Win 7 disk, try cleaning it or if you have an .iso file for win 7 try creating a new DVD. I am not sure about using the recovery disk, but since it loads that rules out a bad physical drive.

    I will make a new disk. I did try booting up without a hard disk in my laptop though and the windows disk loaded up fine.

    I now need some additional help. I managed to install Windows on the new drive after burning a new disk, but now I have some new problems. The fresh windows installation will not recognise my wireless internet connection at all and only seems to offer me the option of trying for a wired connection. Also, the fn keys for brightness, volume etc no longer work. Also, when looking at the options for changing the resolution, windows now no longer detects my graphics card. How can I fix these issues?

    Glad to hear that. It would help to know the exact make and model number of the laptop. Or just go the the manuf.'s web site and see if windows 7 drivers are available for your model. (Can I guess you have an ASUS ? )

    Its a custom made laptop that was called an Enigma III. That's probably not much help!

    Regarding the new windows installation, it lists the graphics card as "standard VGA display adapter" with a total available graphics memory of 14mb. It ought to be Nvidia GT540m with 4095mb available. Why is it not just detecting the card that it is there?

    You need to go here to get the proper driver for you card Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
