Ran the bcdfix.cmd from boot command prompt with two errors as seen here.

But it worked - no more boot menu! Starting on the next instructions. Will report back...
    from Elevated Command Prompt

    Code:

    bcdedit/set {bootmgr} resumeobject {b4bfce44-d9a0-11e2-ab43-806e6f6e6963}
    This completed successfully.

I had to get her machine back to her this morning, but before doing so, I ran the commands you kindly suggested. These were the results:

Do this al well in elevated command prompt:
    Code:
    bcdedit /set {current} recoveryenabled yes
    This was successful.

    After that:

    Code:
    reagentc/disable
    reagentc/enable
    Still not working?
Still did not work. For /disable I got error 2, and for /enable I got the same error 57.

    then:
    Code:
    bcdedit /set {current} recoveryenabled yes
    This was successful.

Now do "startup repair" 3 times
On 1st repair it said it found errors: "Boot Manager identifier repaired" and "startup options modeifed".

Second and third repair-boots found no problems.

Booted into Windows and from elevated command tried the reagentc/enable and /disable commands, and got the same errors as before. 57 and 2.

Rebooted and hit F8, and got the recovery screen I noted earlier, with the safe mode, etc options.

I apologize for having to return the computer, as I would have liked to have followed this through too, to see why these errors were occurring when everything appears in order. I know it is unsatisfying to a degree to come this far and then not be able to do this final thing. But at least I have the OS disk now with repair function, if she should have problems, though I don't expect any.

Kaktussoft, your help was monumental. I would have had to either rebuild the UEFI/GPT partitions from the command line (which I don't know how to do and would have had to research) and TRIED to get the archive to boot afterward, or learn how to convert it back to MBR which I was reluctant to do because I wasn't sure if it would boot at all, if reverted. In all cases it would have taken me several days and countless hours of reading, plus a lot more stress. And this isn't a job. I was just doing a favor. All to say, I cannot thank you enough.

If you have any final words, I am all ears. And forever in your debt...

"Boot Manager identifier repaired" and "startup options modeifed".
ery strange.. but not very important I assume. To display what it did change:

    in elevated command prompt:
    Code:

    bcdedit/enum all>c:\bcd.txt
    Post c:\bcd.txt
    Afterwards you may delete c:\bcd.txt

    In elevated command prompt:
    Code:
    dir/a /s c:\winre.* 2>nul
    Also:
    Code:
    reagentc/info
    Post output

If it really not works and no winre.win file is on C drive:

    In elevated command prompt:
    Code:
    bcdedit /set {current} recoveryenabled no
Not really needed. Use win7 repair disc or win7 install dvd to enter "recovery environment" instead.
