Need help to determine best course of action-clone,image,win transfer

I have an HP625 running Win 7 pro 64bit and it is starting to act flaky, so a new laptop is in my near future. I want to move all of my files and programs to the new system and can decide which would be the best way. I have my Win 7 pro disks so I can install it on the new laptop, since it will most likely come with Win 8 and I can't use it with the work that I do. I also plan to use an external USB HDD that is on my network to store the image files of the old disk. So here is my issue. 1. If I make a backup/restore image of the old disk using Macrium and store it on the network USB HDD would I be able to restore it on the new laptop. or 2. Would cloning work, somehow using the network USB HDD to hold a clone image and then move it to the new laptop. If anybody has a third option I am open to it.

Macrium has a version of their app that allows for "migration" of Win7 from one PC to another. It's called the redeploy option -- and it costs money. I used it to "migrate" a Win7 install from an older machine to a newer machine -- and it worked great! What you do need is the drivers for the new machine on CD or USB so that MR can find them.

You also have to make a bootable CD from Macrium that you will use on the new PC.

The process is explained in the link: v4: How to Use Macrium ReDeploy (ReDeploy, v4)
