Windows failed to restore my computer

The first thing I did when I started using this notebook was create a backup file using Windows 7 Backup and Restore. The date was June 18th 2013. Today I tried to restore the system from the backup and Windows failed to restore my computer. This is what I did step-by-step.
    1. I clicked on Control Panel and Backup & Restore and a window opened
    2. I clicked on Recover settings or your computer and a window opened
    3. I clicked on Advanced recovery methods and a window opened and I selected the option that said "Use a system image you created earlier to recover your computer."
    4. An error message appeared that said "Windows can not find any file backups on this computer."

The backup file is stored on an external hard drive that is connected to this PC with a USB cable. It's in a folder named WindowsImageBackup. What do I need to do to get Windows to find the backup file and restore my system?

    Hi KCav,

You are going to need a system repair disk or original bootable installation media. Not knowing the manufacturer of notebook or what came with the computer in terms of installation or recovery media, you could try following the instructions in the links below:

KCav, search this forom for "Windows can not find any file backups on this computer."
It's a too common problem with the Win 7 image/restore, but you'll probably find an answer.
I suggest you use an aftermarket imaging utilty. Some are free. Macrium is one.
I stopped using the Win 7 utility when I ran a problem similar to yours while testing it.
Never tried to address it, but others here have.
