    Manually restoring a system image

    Hello!

I've made a Windows 7 system image of my old computer (with a 1 TB HDD) and want to restore it to a 500 GB HDD of the new computer. But it won't do it. Then I deleted the bigger partiton and left the 200 GB system partition but even now it won't restore it. So what I want to do is manaully restore all the files, please tell me if this is the right way: I plan to normally format my HDD and install Windows 7, then mount the system image backup and manually copy all the files from the system partition to the new computer's C: drive. My question is, will Windows 7 allow me to do this? I will do it with admin privileges of course, but still, will it allow me to overwrite the system files etc.? Anyone has any experience in this?

    Thank you!

Never did it myself, but here's an explanation on how to extract filea from a Win 7 image.

System Image - Extract Files Using Disk Management

I can tell you to forget about system files on the image, since you said you resinstalled Win 7 on a new computer.
You don't want to overlay your new install with the system files from the old computer image.
But the above might help you retrieve other files from the image.
