    DVD Vs. Flash Drive Backup

    Hello everybody,

I would like to hear your opinion about advantages / disadvantages of a DVD backup Vs. Flash Drive Backup. I believe that you should always make a DVD copy of important data. Of course burning DVDs can be time consuming, but it is far more safer to keep you data on a DVD and not on a flash drive which can easily be infected with viruses.

Furthermore, a price of a DVD GB vs one gigabyte of date on a flash drive can be discussed, too. Not everybody comes from a rich county and pays no attention to the money.

Thanks in advance for participating in discussion,

If I want a backup copy of something, I will put it on a CD or DVD (depending on file sizes). I do not use RW type discs, I use CD-R, DVD-R (or +R). I do not use UDF formatted disc writing (e.g. Nero's InCD, Roxio Drag to Disc, etc). I consider flash drives as temporary storage.

When I do backups of my system drive, I use Macrium Reflect and backup to another hard drive. I only do full hard drive backups, I don't do incremental types.

What is a life span of a DVD copy if you keep it in a dry and dark place like a DVD wallet?

There are different theories on how long an optical media device (e.g. CD or DVD) will last. Do a google search and you will come up with lots of opinions. Suffice to say I have some 10 year old audio CD's, that I burned, that have not deteriorated.
