Windows Backup has not been set up

Windows Backup has not been set up is displayed when I try to use Windows Backup. I click on Set up backup and nothing happens. I wait and wait and no response. This is pretty frustrating!

The important thing is to get an image so no reinstalls are ever necessary again.

Click the Create an Image link and it should manually save it to backup.

If the backup menu (configurable for files/image saving on a schedule, when external is plugged in, etc.) doesn't come around then I suggest you use your tech support with MS or manufacturer to get it working.

Have you disabled any services? Installed any 3rd party security software? Although I have ever tried it, can you run the backup utility under safe mode?

How do you have the UAC set. Look around for any icons that are blinking requesting permission. I saw some the other day in the taskbar that were hard to see. It seems some windows pop up behind other windows so you don't know they are there.

I have the same problem with Windows 7 backup. I am unable to get the "set up backup" button to do anything. I've turned off firewalls, anti-virus software, UAC and anything else I could think of. I am able to create a system image by clicking the "create a system image" button but that's it. It seems when I either right or left click on the "set up backup" button it totally ignores me. The cursor turns to a hand and underlines the "set up back up" command but clicking on the button does nothing. No clicking sound or anything. To the left of the button it just says "Windows Backup has not been set up. I am trying to set the program up to backup to my internal hard drive "D" at selected times.
I do not see any hidden permission boxes. Checked services and don't appear to be anything turned off.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello Gbaron and HotTub,

You might see if resetting the backup settings back to default may help.

I gave this a try Brink but no joy. The "Set up backup" button is still unresponsive and Backup shows that Windows Backup has not been set up. I can still create an image manually but just can't configure anything within the program by setting up Windows Backup.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will keep looking for a solution.

Try again on clean boot:How to perform a clean boot procedure to determine whether background programs are interfering with a game or a program that you currently use

It would be any conflict with 3p security software -uninstall firewall, antivirus, antispyware.

HotTub,

If Flavius's suggestions still do not help, then a repair install should fix it for you without losing anything.

Doing a clean boot didn't help the problem. I'm not quite ready to do a repair install yet Brink. Read the procedure in the "Brink Link" you supplied and it's a little bit more then I want to take on right now. Everything else in the computer is running great. Just Microsoft's backup & restore is giving me grief. I do have Aconis doing my backups for now but it just irritates me that I can't get Microsoft's version of backup running properly. I thought maybe Acronis might be causing the Microsoft lockout but would have thought the clean boot would have disproved that.
Thanks again to all for the tips to try. When I do get around to trying a repair install, I will post the results.
