How to Restore System Image Created on a Larger HDD.

Hello, a nice day to all of us..

Before this thread my problem is on "how to replace and install a new HDD," and twas solved clean.

    Now the situation is this:
    >I have now installed and using two HDD (one 1TB SATA HDD and one 500GB SATA HDD).
    >Before I reformat the 500GB HDD, i was able to make a system image using "windows 7 create a system image and system repair disk."
    >As of this date I am using the reformatted 500GB HDD for my Data/Music/etc..

    >>My question now is HOW WILL I RESTORE A SYSTEM IMAGE of my old 500GB HDD created before to the new 1TB HDD?
    >>Should I unplug the 500GB HDD before I do a system image restore or IS IT JUST OK TO DO A SYSTEM IMAGE RESTORE with the 1TB and 500GB plugged in?

[fyi, I have many games on that created system image before and I do not want to do a game re-install time consuming]

thanks very much for any info or comment.

Your title doesn't appear to reflect what you want to do. You want to go from 500GB partition image to a 1TB partition. You can just do it. Windows imaging will want to reformat the 1TB drive in the process and you may need to expand some unallocated space. If you do then get back. I would recommend disconnecting additional HDDs although it shouldn't be necessary given you have reformatted the 500GB HDD - best to be safe.

Having said all this I wouldn't recommend having your OS on one large 1 TB partition. I would partition the 1TB into 2x 500GB partitions and restore to the first partition. If you don't then once you start to fill up the 1TB you end up with unmanageably large images.

    >>actually that was my mistake of not partitioning the 1TB into 2-500GB, It is really a huge file to do an image backup (that now i want it resolve..)

    >>WHAT I WANT TO DO NOW IS TO REFORMAT & REPARTITION THE 1TB to 2-500GB, and then RESTORE MY OLD SYSTEM IMAGE CREATED on one of the new 500GB partition.

"best to be safe" i think i should then disconnect the old 500gbHDD.

    thanks alot
