hard drive failed, system image not found on hard drive

A screenshot giving all details of all drives, as seen by Windows Disk Management, would give a better idea of your situation.

yes you maybe right but how does one do that without OS?. all i can do is use the install dvd, and only gives me install or system image recovery. as image cannot be used, i dont want a clean install on hd as image would be wiped. ideally i would like to put system image on external and install image to new internal as theog mentioned but sounds like more trouble doing that. unsure what to do tbh. thanks for replying
