Usually you cannot reactivate an OEM license when the mobo changed. But if it worked, you were lucky.

It seems my luck has run out. It's asking me to activate on my old account. What a shame. I guess i'm going to have to stick to the new install of windows, as that's the one that successfully updated. so should i make a backup of my unactivated account and store it to the new account. and if so, will everything be intact? thank you guys so much, for your help. if there's any way to donate or buy you a beer, it would be an honor. you saved me $100.00 USD. it's the least i can do.

i'm afraid to activate, considering i activated with a new install of windows 7 on the same computer. thank you.
It's technically not the same computer anymore... you changed everything. Old Computer hardware will never boot anymore. What license did you have ... OEM or RETAIL?

i'm going to try to back up my data/account and apply it to the harddrive that is currently activated. i'm worried that activating my other harddrive (my main hdd) the one i had a problem with in the first place, will just be denied activation.
