Question regarding Windows 7 and the creation of WindowsImageBackup

I am using the Windows 7 backup process that came from Microsoft. I know that there are others and possibly better ones on the market.

When I backup my files weekly, it appears that a WindowsImageBackup folder is also created. Is this a System Image?

When I create a System image, I notice that a WindowsImageBackup folder is also created.

To me, it looks like these are the same files. Is this true?

My intent is to protect myself in the event that my computer's hard drive has to be replaced and I want to recover my system.

Up until recently, I have been backing up my files weekly and periodically creating a system repair disc. I have not been selecting "Create a system image". Am I covered as far as having all application and system files required to recover my system?

Hello Stu,

Yes, that is correct. The WindowsImageBackup folder is where a created system image is saved to. You will also get this folder when you check the Include a system image of drives box while setting up your scheduled Windows Backup like in step 9 below.

Backup User and System Files

You will be fully covered since a system image includes everything, and a Windows Backup will allow you to restore individual files as needed.

Hope this helps,
