Windows 7: How do I create "rolling" backups, always deleting the oldest?

How do I create "rolling" backups, always deleting the oldest?

I am successful in creating a disc image and saving weekly backups to an external drive. But after a couple of months I get a message that my backup drive is full. I usually simply begin the process anew by creating another image and waiting until my backup drive is full again.

Is there some way to have Win7 automatically delete the oldest backup when the drive approaches capacity and continue backing up the most recent data?

Rolling images would be nice, but I have never seen that. You could consider incremental or differential (Better) images. Then you don't have a big space problem. Many imaging programs offer that option for free (e.g. Aomei or Paragon) or for fee (.e.g. Macrium). Here is the AOMEI example:

Question, which to be honest I could probably answer for myself with a little experimenting. But I'm hoping to get some insights from others faced with a similar problem, as to how they've addressed the problem... and if they may have a better solution than I've come up with. My goal is to...
