    Display blank after Macrium restore


    I used my Macrium Reflect (free version) recovery disk to restore the C: drive on my 4 year-old Win7Pro-32bit HP laptop. The image restored was on an external USB drive. Restore seemed to proceed as expected. On restart, however, the screen goes black after the Starting Windows flag-waving. Control never returns to the keyboard. Disk light continues to flicker. This state remains unchanged for at least 30 minutes. This behavior was repeated after restoring a different date's image.

    Conceivably relevant info:
    Laptop has single HDD with multiple partitions. C: partition was imaged and restored. Recovery disk version shows
    E57932F1AE469A26#5.0.4258 2012/01/27#WAIKFiles00x86.exe

    Any hope for getting my laptop back to working order?

    The solution, at least in this case, was to reinstall Win 7. None of the three C: partition restores would boot properly. Safe mode was available but no further clues appeared. Oh well. Trust has been diminished.

    I've run into the same problem using MR -- and have found two different ways to solve it:
    1) Using the Boot CD made from WinRE, choose the option to repair the boot
    2) Using the Win7 Repair CD made from the Win7 Backup feature, boot and run Startup Repair three times.

    Now that you have Win7 working again, do yourself a favor and use the Backup feature to create and burn a Win7 Repair CD.

    I don't think the boot repair function is available on the Linux Boot CD, which is why I did not suggest that earlier.

Macrium image restore

I tried a Macrium Reflect image restore of 2 partitions (100M system, c: 490G). I wanted to select the 2 partition boxes but Macrium would only select one - I tried control clicks etc. Can I only restore one partition at a time?
