    Transfering data off x-ternal hdd

HI,I have been trying to transfer data&files from a WD PASSPORT X-TERNAL HDD,but the data that i got off it was what i put on it in last few days that came off new HDD with WIN 7 installed on it.
The X-TERNAL HDD has about 60GB of data on that for some reason i can not access i installed WINDOWS EASY TRANSFER on to both of the HDD'S that i have in my PC right now and that is supposed to help with transferring data from PC to another PC but that would not even work.
The other way i thought about doing is to old HDD out of the PC i am using right now put it into the other E521 but transfer cable down load WINDOWS EASY TRANSFER program and see if that even would work but that way of doing it could have a few down sides to it i have in the past some of the problems with PC'S are usually simple&stupid, thank you

Not sure I follow your explanation, but I don't see why you would need to use Easy Transfer to move data from an external drive to a PC.

I'm guessing there is something missing from your explanation. Otherwise, I'd just drag the files from the external to the destination drive.

Easy Transfer is not a highly polished tool anyway.

Right, Easy Transfer is very prolematic. Many people have problems with it.

If you can see the files, just copy/paste them.

HI,whs,The reason i was asking about the easy transfer way was i could not get anything off of X-TERNAL HDD.
This may have something to do with it,i ran WD diagnostics program on all three of their different levels, the last one was more detailed then the other two and it to the end of the run it said HDD was bad i ran 3 times just to make sure it was not a fluke came back the same all 3 times.
Called WD and they it was out of warranty so now i have a $90.00 paper weight.
Heres another way i thought about downloading data off of old HDD to new SSDH HYBRID HDD was to take the old HDD out my other E521 and transfer it to the other E521 and use cables to do it,because both HDD'S are in the same PC right now.
There probably and easier way but this how my little mind is working today, sometimes it's hard to get both brain cells to.

Well, if the disk is sour, there is little you can do - only hope it holds up for the data transfer. But programs won't improve the situation. If you use very basic system tools you will know much better wht is happening.

Sometimes people have more luck with a live Linux CD for rescuing data. You can also make a live stick like I have done. There are always a couple of those in the house.
