Windows 7 Cannot create System Restore Point

I just got done making a clean install on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on a SSD drive. Then I noticed that whenever I was doing a System Update, it would try to create a restore point for many minutes and then give up and proceed with the update. Well, the bottom line is, I can't create a system restore point. I've basically tried everything that I could find on the subject: 1. Made sure that Task Scheduler and Volume Shadow Copy services were on Auto and turned on; 2. Turned System Restore off in the System Protection tab, rebooted, and then re-enabled it on the C; 3. Ran sfc /scannow which gave the system a clean bill of health; 4. Tried using Macrium to make an image, which did nothing. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

BTW, the error message that I get after a failed attempt to create a Restore Point is: The creation of shadow copy has timed out. Try this operation again. (0x81000101)

    Uninstall USB booster utilities.

You haven't filled in the rest of your system specs.
System Info - See Your System Specs

This happened to me whenever I had the ASRock XFast USB utility installed. Try uninstalling that.

Another example of these "booster" programs is ASUS' "USB 3.0 Boost"

But if you don't have those kinds of board, but have any kind of "USB turbo-boosters" installed, you still should remove it. They don't get along well with the Volume Shadow Copy service.

Thank you. Yes I do have an ASRock Mobo with XFast USB installed. Unchecking it from the Startup group was one of the first things I did. Unfortunately, it didn't help.

P.S. System Specs are now complete.

jhumur try this mate 0x81000101 Shadow copy timeout error - Microsoft Community

Other wise all I can think of is that you need to clean and format the disk and reinstall again as it seems to be having trouble in overwriting the old install..

    Uninstall it.
Removing it from the startup list does nothing, as there is an additional driver it installs to your system. Uninstalling it removes this driver. I found this out after looking for answers out here: What's wrong with my VSS? - Microsoft Community

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data - it should give us the source of the error code.

You really made my day with this! I've been struggling with installer issues forever and would cringe every time my favorite program came out with an update, as it did today. Wouldn't install - just hung there. Here it goes again .... Then I found this post, uninstalled the Asrock USB and Memory utilities (They never seemed to do anything anyway) and suddenly, everything is working!

If you lived near me, I'd buy you a couple of beers!

    Thanks again.

Yes well the bloatware that a lot of stuff comes with causes more problems than not and at least slows any machine down as I have had a few Toshiba laptops and believe me they are full of bloat. A clean install is the best answer to that crap and my laptops are both so much faster now than before.

After two years of trying everything, I finally fixed my System Restore using this post by WalterBerndl: Check if you have a program called "XFast USB" usually installed with the MoBo from the mainboard vendor ASRock.

When trying to create a restore point, it hung at "creating a restore point," followed by the error message: "The restore point could not be created for the following reasons: The creation of a shadow copy has timed out. Try this operation again. (0x81000101) Please try again."

I Googled and came across many others who had resolved the 0x81000101 problem by uninstalling XFAST USB. I was experiencing the problem with ASRock Xfast USB version 3.0.28.

I then uninstalled ASRock Xfast USB (xfastusb) and rebooted. This resolved the 0x81000101 problem.
NOTE: I first tried to upgrade to ASRock Xfast USB version 3.0.38, but again encountered the error message. Also removing it from the Start Up Menu does nothing, as there is an additional driver it installs to your system. Uninstalling it removes this driver
