How to restore from an ex. HardDrive system image w/o Legacy USB?

As the title states, I have an external hard drive on which I will back up my system image, but don't you need Legacy USB turned on to boot the new system image from the BIOS? I have no CD drive on my netbook and the down arrow key is missing, so I can't select anything in the BIOS. Boot options (pressing f8 repeatedly while booting) works, but it doesn't give me a method to boot into a system image. I've been fiddling around with the imageres files and so far nothing terrible has happened, but I want to be able to save my computer if something were to happen. Any ideas as to what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: It also has no PS/2 port, which the BIOS only seems to allow for an external keyboard's use.

Was this system image created with windows backup utility?

    Or another program?

If windows backup and restore was used:

You can always reinstall windows and go into the backup and recovery in control panel and do advanced recovery methods-restore from a system image you created previously.
