Backup and Restore multiple system image drives

    Hi

Why does windows put two drives in the "Include a system image of drives" option ?
I only want to backup C:
    What is causing this?
My F: disk is only storage no system files as i know of.

There are system files on each volume. not massive qty's but volume information which is hidden, plus recycle bin etc.

I dont back tehm up. I dont use the built in back up so if there is another reason i might not know it.

So how can i get rid of them. i just want an image of the C: drive, there is no way to deselect the F: drive in that option.

That's because 7 boot critical Files are on F:

You need to make C the "system" partition .

You only have 1 HD I take it?

It's also because windows backup image is not the most flexible app.

Just as a matter of having the info: What boot critical files would there be on the "F" drive? The reason I ask is because I have a hard drive that is visable when I boot into my Vista operating system but that drive is not visable when I boot into my win7 operating system.

    Ok maybe this may help
Here is how my disks are arranged:

I see know.. the F: partition is labeled as system. but how can i set C: to be the system partition again. does it have to do with the F: partition sitting on Disk 0.

Then what would happen if i removed Disk 0 from my computer... would windows not boot?
Also the two first partitions on Disk 0 are for linux.

    Hi Daba'

    No, windows wouldn't boot.

Do you have windows bootmgr handing over to grub?

    Hi Fy,

    Have a look.

Go to Folder Options >View and show Hidden files and protected o/s files.

Does it say "system" on it in Disk Management by any chance.

No it does not say system on the Vista hard disk. Win7 is the physical C Drive,,,,Vista is on another physical D Drive...I am able to dual boot....but when I am in Vista I have 5 Hard disk drives and when I am in Win7 I only have 4 Hard disk drives. Attached is a jpg of disk management when I am in Win7.

    Hi SIW2

Before i moved to Win7 i had Vista in dualboot with linux, then i used the grub bootloader thats why i put linux on the first drive.

Now with Win7 the grub is not even showing. it goes straight to booting Win7. ( i noticed this today .. heh.. i dont use linux very often :)) .

Something got messed up, i should have moved back C: as the first drive before installing Win7 but i was to eager.

So now i have two problems.. how can i make grub to work again and boot linux?

    EDIT:
I have fixed it now.. just moved the boot files from F: to C: as described in another thread here:
    multiple system images

But when i run bcdedit in the console it still says "device partition=F:"
Now i will try to add linux to the boot order.. any advice?
