Windows 7: Getting data off an old hard disk

Getting data off an old hard disk

I have a hard disk out of a computer with a corrupt MBR, and before that it would only do a restart loop. I am wondering how I would go about getting the data off this hard disk if I were to just plug it into my computer.

Thing is, the drive is an IDE, I do not have any IDE interface on my motherboard, so I would have to get some sort of external enclosure.

Also the drive is formatted into a Drive C:\ (NTFS) and a Drive D:\ (FAT 32) It is out of an old HP Pavilion computer. What I am wondering is if that would cause an issue if I were to plug it into my computer. Would it just read the data no problem or would I have to do anything to get both partitions to read.

Another thing I am wondering, Will I have to set the jumper settings on the Hard disk to either master or slave, or should I just leave it as Cable Select?

I have no interest in restoring the operating system on the machine it came out of, i just want the data.

Thank you for your help in advance.

1. Get some external connectors for hard disk that can be connected to USB drive.
2. If you are connecting it as USB drive it will not be asking for master - slave options; it will connect as a external hard drive.
3. Get the jumper out of your old hard disk it will be safer.
4. No issues on partitions; if your new desktop runs on NTFS; it will read both your old hard disk partitions.

I did this on my old hard disks and recovered data as well. So mention me whether you did it successfully.
