    System restore error-0x80070005

Many messages have been posted from Windows OS users reporting that execution of System Restore failed with an error code 0x8007005, without knowing how to solve the cause of the problem. Is there a bug in the system that Mycrosoft should fix through a Windows update? Has MS áttention been brought to the problem?

I have a laptop that has the Win 8.1 installed on a small 64K HD. It has no problem with running the System Restore. But my destop PC with a large 1 tetrabyte HD installed has this problem. Can size of HD be a cause?

    I seriously doubt it.

It's an imperfect tool. In my experience, it works as advertised 98 times out of 100. That's good enough for me for an imperfect tool.

The better idea is to know what your plan is when it fails. That could be anything up to and including a clean install.

Since System Restore nearly always works for me, I don't pay much attention to why it might now work, but I hear that certain defragmentation programs can interfere with it. I stay with Windows Defragmenter.

Thank you. We will have to wait for Microsoft to fix the problem if it is an inherent Bug in Windows OS. I have reported the matter to its helpdesk in Singapore. Doing a clean reinstallation of the OS is a very radical solution because it means that you have spend hours to restore your applications and other data files. The RT version of Win 8.1 for the MS surface tablet does not have this system restore tool anyway. The tool is not important enough to warrant aclean OS re-installation remedy. Microsoft has to fix it.
