If i use system image to return my windows to a date prior to activation with the key number, do I have to reactivate

When you make a system image of an activated Windows setup, it is an exact copy of that system. It means also the activation information, all registry settings etc. are copied to the image.
When you return the image your system is precisely the same, has the same status as was when the image was made. Activated Windows is still activated.

Thanks for the quick answer, but I misspoke. I am activated, I may have to return to a point prior to activation. Do I have to activate again.
Yes. If you do a system restore to a point before the activation, or if you return the image that was created before the activation, you get what you ask. The system must then be once again activated. Restore points and system image work just like that, they return the system exactly as it was.
