Restore points deleted in Win7 when booting into Win XP

This is my first time visiting this website. Here's what I have.

Dual boot system, with Win XP installed on original hard drive. Installed second hard drive to which Win7 pro was installed. The Win XP drive was disconnected before Win7 was installed on second hard drive to avoid conflict.

The workaround that is posted elsewhere on this website did not work in preventing the deletion of restore points in Win7 after booting up in Win XP.

Have seen the posting about hiding the Win7 volume in Win XP by going to diskmgmt.msc while in Win XP and then removing the drive letter from the Win7 volume. First, does it work? Secondly, how risky is this procedure? And thirdly, can it be easily reversed if needed? It is recognized that after the drive letter for the Win7 volume is removed, this volume cannot be accessed while in Win XP mode. I foresee no problem with that.

Looking forward to any responses.

Hello and welcome outerbanks mate have you made any back ups at all of the two drives? Also I am not sure why you need to have two separate drives to get a dual boot?

In any case making a system image using this would be advisable in case of future problems

The other option you mentioned has me wondering why do that too? - unless you have a specific reason that I cannot think of.

In addition to the tutorial below, check to make sure that you do not have the XP drive selected in Windows 7 to create restore points for.

Thanks for the input. Disregard my initial post. I have decided to just go with making a disk image backup. I've spent too much time looking for a solution to the restore points being deleted after booting up into Win XP. None thus far that have been found work. If the Microsoft created and published workaround doesn't work, then it's doubtful any others will work. Strange that Microsoft would publish something that doesn't solve the problem.

In any event, thanks again for the input. Looking forward to spending more time perusing this forum looking for helpful hints.

Could be some other issue causing the usual solution to not work.

What other issue could cause restore points being deleted in Win7 even when applying the workaround posted on this forum? I have also removed the Win7 driver letter volume in Win XP to see if this resolved the restore points problem. it did not.

Sorry for late reply now if the fix that Brink did not fix it then maybe you have a hardware problem there.
Now I should have asked you first up I suppose but we would really likr the machine specs please
see System Info - See Your System Specs and post back same please.

Okay, the System Specs utility was downloaded and saved. The System Info window is now on my desktop. How is the info transferred to this post? Okay, now I see where the information is posted.

In accordance with the request that I post the specs of the computer, it was accomplished. After doing so, I thought there might be some additional suggestions as to why the "workaround" doesn't work in stopping Win XP from deleting restore points in Win7, upon booting up into Win XP. In addition to making the "workaround" changes in the registry, are there any other changes that need to be made to make it function?

Ok outer sorry late rpely mate have been wroking gravyard shifts and now fully awake on days off

The system specs mate first if you click on that greyed out System specifications at very bottom left of anyone's post a complete list od what anyone has added to their profile drops down and it can be seen.

Now we / I can see what you have got it gives a much better idea of what we are working with because we can dig into the hardware for example and advise from there.

Again sorry late reply mate but it has been a tough week at the hospital.
