    Backup and restore catastrophic failure

I created a backup on an old drive. I then realized there was a lot of junk on the drive I could remove so I just reformated it hoping to back up windows 7 again after the drive was formatted. When I went to control panel and selected Backup and Restore after formatting my backup hard drive, it just said

    An internal error has occured
    Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF)

I don't know why deleting this backup would break the functionality of windows 7 backup and restore.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I would guess the restore function was looking for a file from the backup it needed and was removed by the reformatting.

Can you start backup and restore at all? If you can, perhaps changing the backup location would help. If you can't try unplugging the drive so it can't be seen. If you then can start the backup/restore, change the backup location. Then reinstall the drive to see if it will work again.

If none of that works, maybe do a restore back before you did the backup?
