    Unique Recovery Partition Problem


    OK, I'll try to explain this as simple as possible. My laptop has 232 GB HDD. It has 4 different Volumes. I tried to do a screen shot but for some reason it's giving me fits.

    C: NTFS 181GB Capacity 60GB Used (Original C: Vista Partition)
    *: Other 38GB Capacity 38 GB Used (Dual Boot Ubuntu)
    *: Other 1.65GB Cap 1.65GB Used (No Idea what this is)
    D: NTFS 12.86GB Cap 0GB Used HP_Recovery

    I originally had Vista Home Premium installed on here. Through my college, I get Office 7 Professional free. I tried to make a Recovery Cd of Vista before installing Windows 7, but something was wrong with the Recovery Partition. That's neither here nor there.

    So I installed Windows 7 and decided I wanted to do the Backup thing right away. The D: wasn't sufficient (12.86GB), so I tried to change the Backup settings so it would only image C:, not backup Libraries. It still was throwing the 0x8070048 Error Code. So, I have 2 questions:

    1) Do I need to make a Backup on the HDD if I have a Windows 7 install disk?
    2)If I do, is there anyway to make my D: partition bigger by shrinking my C:?
    3)If I don't, can I get rid of my D: and increase my C:?

    I did try searching this forum and got some good ideas (like using Partition Wizard), but it just didn't answer my questions. Thanks again!

    Hello JaKehl,

    Welcome to Seven Forums.

    Would need to see a pic of disk manager to say for sure. Expanding C won't help with the backups though. Don't think you can back up to the same disk as you are saving.

    Sorry Jakehl,

    Need a pic of the bottom portion which shows the position of each of the partitions on the disk. You can use windows to extend a parition into an unallocated space to the immediate right of the partition you want to extend. More info here: Partition or Volume - Extend
