how do i use the repair disk if I have no access to anything?!

Just following up guys, I have downloaded the repair onto a CD.... the problem is, I have no desktop, no 'my computer' etc. When I go into safe mode, etc etc, there's an option to click on comand prompt (or something like that!) can I find locate the CD using this? and will it go chkdsk e:??? soz, have no idea what I'm doing as you can tell. All the guides say things like 'log in as the administrator' etc etc, but I can't log in as anything at the moment.

I almost gave up and started to attack my computer! but it has all my family photo's on, so need to try everything before throwing it out the window.

thank you very much as always

You have to change the boot order to boot from the CD when the PC start. Depending on your system you need to repeatedly hit either the Del, F10, or F2 key or whatever given for this on first boot screen when the computer starts booting to go into the BIOS and change the boot order there or F9 or F12 to see the boot order menu but could be a different one so best if you complete your System Specs which will make it easier to help. There are a number of ways to save the data on your drive so don't throw it out the window yet

If you have access to another PC, can remove the drive from your PC and connect it to the other PC, then you should download and install "recuva" on the other PC -- and see if you can use it to recovery the files and folders from your drive.

If that finds files not all that you need, then you should consider using RecoverMyFiles instead. It is free to download and try, but you have to go online and buy a license to actually recover the files.

Thanks mark. I am happy to buy it.... So this seems like a good option thank you. What I don't understand, is how I can make the computer recognise the cd? Thank you
