With Macrium, is it possible to make an image of the Operating System only, without other documents and user installed programs?
Images are made per partition. If your documents and programs are in another partition, then you get the 'OS only' when you image C. But you have to at least image the system partition with it, else the restore would not boot.

If you do not want your user files imaged every time you image the OS, move those to another partition or disk. That is anyhow a good practice for data integrity.

The programs are a bit more difficult. Those you cannot just move. You have to uninstall/reinstall them and direct the installer to the different partition.

I have attached a screen shot of my Hard disc. In C: there is :-

    (X) 'Windows' folder that seems to have all the system files.

    (Y) 'Program Files' and 'Program Files (x86)' with other Windows and Microsoft items (so many downloaded programs also go and park themselves there).

First, in C: I make another partition D: Then remove everything, [including the downloaded programs in (Y)], to the new partition D:, except (X) and (Y). Leave (X) and (Y) in C:

Then I choose 'System Reserved' + C: for imaging. How does that sound?

    Regards,

No good. You cannot move the programs. You can only reinstall them to another partition. If you move the program files, the programs will not function any more.

And I have no idea what X and Y is.
