My issue is that my sony vaio VPECH laptop windows 7 wont start like it used to.
this issue arised a few days ago, basically the problem is that everytime i start my laptop it gives me two options
Launch startup repair (which was recommended)
Or
start windows normally
i chose the recommended option. So the startup repair is detecting problems and it did warn me that it would take over an hour or so, so i waited and waited and came to check up on it and it still said the same thing, now its been a whole day and it still has that same mesage, along with that there is a black empty screen, its was minimised at first i just maximised it to see what it was.
I just dont know what i should do?
i have a ton of essays saved on the laptop have no idea if the files are backed up
or anything like that. Please id really appreciate any kind of help?!
i did try to start the laptop normally, thing is everytime ig reached the windows logo it just oaused for a minute and then a quick flash of a blue screen appeared then disdisappeared, and started the whole process again.
thats my issue, please any help i would really appreciate!

I would suggest saving all your important data to an external medium first. To do that, you can use a live Linux disc like "Mint".

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/287439-emergency-kit-save-your-files-dead-os.html

Once all data are saved, enter in to "Advanced Boot Options" menu by pressing "F8". Then choose "Disable automatic restart on system failure".

F8%20on%20boot%20Disable%20automatic%20restart%20on%20system%20failure

How to disable automatic computer restarts following a system failure in a Microsoft Windows environment using the F8 key

Hopefully Windows will stop at the blue screen error screen until you manually power down the machine. Take a clear screenshot of the BSOD screen using a digital cam or smart phone and please upload it with your next reply.

Most likely startup repair was checking your disk drive (can take a long time). Or "system integrity" of files (can take long time but not 1 day!).

In "recovery environment" ->command prompt:
Code:
dir c:\users
dir d:\users
dir e:\users
What is the drive letter in recovery environment (so where do you see your username)? I use P in this example (replace with actual drive letter):

Code:
chkdsk/f P:
Does it report errors? All repaired? Run it twice to prove all errors are repaired.

So "startup repair" did finish? Click "view diagnostic and repair details" afterwards and tell us which checks ended in another status than 0x0 (which means success). So what went wrong with what status code?

Please do #7 and tell me what drive letter the win7 disk has in the recovery environment. Post the results of #7 .

Maybe hard drive has hardware failures!? System Restore doesn't find any restore points... maybe it wasn't enabled? Or maybe the drive has a hardware failure. Maybe you messed around with the win7 partition from within linux or winxp?

Thank you all for your help. The issue now is that no matter how i start the laptop (safe mode with command prompt or just normally), it just wouldnt allow me to create a restore point, it says that no restore points have been made so i tried to create one, but it doesnt let me.
at the moment i have started the laptop in safe mode with command prompt and it has taking 10 minutes to prepare the desktop, now im stuck with a black screen with words typed in white, now ive researched and it has told me to type in rstrui.exe and it should let me to create a restore point, but i thought id ask you guys and listen to your thoughts on this. What should i do?

Can you boot successfully in "normal mode"?
"has taking 10 minutes to prepare the desktop"=> "preparing desktop" is the message you see? Please post exact message.

rstui is for "rolling back" to a so called "restore point" ... not for creating one. Why would you want to create one?

Why didn't you check the harddrive yet????? Do:
Code:
chkdsk/f c:
Any errors? All repaired?
Now we do the same stepes 1-3 again but also check blocks in use (step 4) and unallocated blocks (step 5). It can take hours! Any errors in step 4 and 5?
Code:
chkdsk/r c:

System files integrity is fine?
Code:
sfc/scannow
