Do Extending Hardware Support In Windows PE , select the folder c:\windows (maybe called d:\windows or e:\windows in winpe) and click scan.

Most usb3 work OK. But not from all vendors
my usb 3 external drive wont work on usb 2 just tried, its not there in my computer but is when plugged into usb 3 ....... how would I find drivers for it on my system they must be there ?
What model external is it, if it is powered off just usb then it might not get enough juice through usb 2. It should show up in the devices and printers area of the control panel.
USBSTOR\DiskSamsung_D3_Station______0202 powered by external source, I got drivers now and rescue disk but when I run disk none of my usb slots don't work ???? its like it's doing it on purpose ???

should I just reinstall then win 7 then try rescue media ? or persevere not getting any where

Check your BIOS setup settings to make sure USB is enabled, especially Legacy USB support.
If i have the right manual for your MB, you should see this.

this is where it all kept going wrong, because I couldn't click yes or no this also happened after I reinstalled windows and then tried to use rescue media ????? also my usb 3 keyboard and gaming mouse where a bit useless had to use old usb 2 ones as they never worked but maybe this was part of my problem ? .... just kept tying to load rescue media and then on the umpteenth time I got a mouse cruiser was able to click no and the restore proceeded all seems to be ok now thanks for all your help here
