Question about WAIK vs WIN PE lost the info-search no find inmythreads

    Hi Everyone!

Hopefully easy, short question! (I type long, its an easy question!)

I now have: 1. Macrium Reflect, and 2. AOMEI working with native VSS and copied on external HDD once (got to do it twice, but)

AOMEI is asking if I want to make the AIK WAIK? boot disk, for this it says it needs that WAIK file from "Windows" central (you know, the 8 hour download)

MY MEMORY is bad. .... as in a new thread I'll explain..

    I only have the threads...

I tried searching the threads for our discussions about AIK WAIK AKK ?? and I got this result for all 4 (of my 7) threads:

The following errors occurred with your search:
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : aik, akk
Of course it searched for WAIK and it did not find that one...

    So

QUESTION my simple question is this: I have downloaded from Member whs' s One Drive WIN PE 5.3 7220 .iso for Macrium Reflect, and copied twice to CD's for safety.

Now AOMEI is asking me to do the same.... Do I need both?

Are the WIN PE's for each one specific to each back up system?

Or can I just use the one I got from whs as my single, only needed Recovery Boot disk?

I can't find our discussion about this.....I know I asked in one of the 4 threads!!!

Search is not helping and I did copy those postings as how to use Macrium/AOMEI and paste it in a file "to be done" and I will post a separate issue with that as soon as I find where it goes here (Look for my post in Welcome new users)

Sorry for such a long delay, I am writing thank yous to everyone for helping me here and in other open threads before I close them and hopefully I'll find some others to give reps to so I can return and select the best most helpful postings to identify which are key to success in my long long postings.

Thanks again for reading this... hope my question is clear above, if not ask!!!

Yes, you need both a bootable cd for Macrium and a bootable cd for AOMEI.

You should boot from your Macrium cd to make sure it does boot up.
If it does, you will see it runs the Macrium program, and can restore and create Macrium images.
You also need a bootable AOMEI cd so it boots up in AOEMI, and can restore and create AOMEI images.

Here is an MS link to download WAIK for Win 7:
The Windows® Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows® 7

I found this thread on the Aoemi forum where SIW2 posted a link to download an Aoemi PEbuilder zip file.
Boot CD built using PE Builder 1.4 doesn't boot - aomeitech
    It says it's for Win 8.1 x64.
I don't know if a different PE builder is needed for each different OS, so this one will not work for Win 7 ???
Can someone explain if a different PE Builder recovery cd is needed for each OS ?

Haven't done that yet---will do one more major save under Macrium before I attempt that trick!

Thanks for that information! Now I know what I need to accomplish next here!

Of course not. Macrium is British and AOMEI is Chinese. Would they be the same ??

PS: This was a 1 line question for which you typed a whole page. I wish you would get to the point in the first sentence.

    oh my!!---more questions from me????

    Hi DavidE!!!

    Thanks for your reply!

I truly appreciate your time and effort....

I wonder, should I read the cautionary statements at all?

They ALWAYS cause me to do and ask more questions!

Case in point... I went to the WAIK Windows site in the link you provided! (yes thanks for finding it again---I wrote toooo many postings to find whs' s link I know he had a .iso one might solve the problem I report below (if whs reads this and can repost in THIS thread his shortcut .iso I'd appreciate it!)

    As for everyone else............

I found the following information at the site

    The SIZE of the download:
    Version: 3.0 File Name: KB3AIK_EN.iso
Date Published: 8/6/2009 File Size: 1.7 GB
    and instructions!!!!

1.To install the Windows AIK, you must first download the ISO, 2. Write the ISO file to a DVD using a3. third party tool, and then 4. install the Windows AIK from the DVD. For installation on Windows 5. prior to Windows 7, this download requires that you run genuine Microsoft Windows. Click the Continue button in the Validation Required section to begin the validation process. After validation is complete, you will return to this page to continue the download.

For the latest issues and known workarounds, see the Windows AIK Readme file (Windows Automated Installation Kit for Windows 7 Readme).
Red colors refer to questions I raise below: (yes yes I know for those who have read me before ..... typing tooo long!!!)

    1. So its not just a simple download.... I've done the ".iso" before.... when?? ? Like 2 years ago when I did installing Mac OS's on this Oracle VM VirtualBox (remember my name? XP VM USER? that's how I got my name by Windows 7 messing up the XP before I even got to the Mac ones)

So how do I do that .iso again (Yes I have instructions... but it seems I have more questions than the instructions take... which is why I got to find some way other than "by phone" to do computer problems or else I'll never fix everything here by myself!!)

So long question... so does anyone have simple 1 2 3 method for burning iso disk (see below I do have from the MAC time some third party programs I think I know how to use, emphasis on word "think"!!!

    2. Write the .iso to disk.... again its been over 2 years since I did that operation and my memory gets fuzzy after just a few weeks as you see when I lost my Opera History, I forgot where to find all the links everyone sent me from Windows Seven (Still looking for a fix for my lost Opera web history!!)

    3. a third party program! YES not a question! I have 1. ImgBurn - The Ultimate Image Burner!, and 2. Free Easy Burner plus I paid for and always had 3. Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 LJ Version: 10.3.183 all 3 installed back in 2012 and I had to switch between them as some worked for Mac.iso's some did not so that is why I got 3!!! Will have to experiment and see which works for this WAIK .iso when I get up to that step in the upcoming days....

    4. So I still hope the actual installation of the Windows AIK from DVD will occur when it is up to that step (I'm writing this here as I'm assuming that since my DVD's are 700 MB how does the 1.7 GB Download fit on the DVD.iso?? Does it get compressed? Ok I know I have (205 programs!) somewhere several zip creator programs to make it smaller and unzipping programs to make it back larger again,

(COMMENT ----so you see my "little" knowledge is actually a dangerous thing when I start playing around with these programs -----without help I usually get myself in hot water and have to write anyway to the help pages on the third party program sites for assistance as I do something wrong somewhere and have no idea how it happened---I DO follow instructions , they just don't turn out the way it was intended to!)

    5. Yes I can read... it says "prior" to Windows 7 is the question about Genuine Windows and Validation process.... but that brings up another point...
While I had NO BACKUP I could not "fix" many problems....
Maybe I should "forget" the WAIK for a while and make a good backup again....

    and

Fix the following problem (here is a current screenshot just to show you I have 10000's of screens where this error code appears)

Question about WAIK vs WIN PE lost the info-search no find inmythreads-w7-waik-q-re-not-genuine-use-one-ps17775.jpg

And Windows Updates DO NOT WORK of course:

Question about WAIK vs WIN PE lost the info-search no find inmythreads-w7-waik-not-genuine-updates-do-not-work-ps17781.jpg

I have followed (see above about my "COMMENT" ) As I have followed other's advice and tried to follow Windows itself methods to cure this problem which I found on many other sites including here how to fix it...

I've done everything up to "reinstalling Windows from the original disks" which of course I would not have attempted without a backup....

Does anyone else have a suggestion to get rid of this??
It stops my getting "updates" unless I go through a lengthy process which temporarily gets the sign off the desktop (or when I turn on computer and its not there right away)
I RUN! (do not walk!) I RUN to get any Windows Update items , running a manual request for any missed software updates and install them quickly before the "sign" comes back on and I'm prohibited from visiting the Windows site due to my not having a "genuine" windows product

    I LOVE! (SORRY FOR CAPS!)
I love especially Windows' offer of "help" for Windows 7 problems....

    its Either:

    1. Ask a person for help
Get a friend to help you over the Internet
Answer: Like who?? That's why I'm here at Windows Seven Forum you're the only ones available (Oh right, Windows Microsoft Community tells me "GO AWAY and get WINDOWS OS installed to come back and use our Knowledge Base and other helpful people of thre WIndows Community! (all because I have a Non-Genuine Windows!!! that is not recognized by the guard dogs at the gates of Microsoft!!

    2. Ask experts and other Windows users
Answer : I'm the local "go to person" for others who have even LESS computer knowledge than I show here!!

    3.Contact technical support
Go online to contact your computer manufacturer
Answer: SONY expired help 2 years after owning laptop!

4, 5 6 etc etc... you get the idea by now...

    Thanks for reading this far..

    Thanks for any help

(Let me know if I should actually begin yet another thread for help on my persistent "Not Genuine Windows" warning label on the Desktop screen and I'll happily do a new thread for everyone to use in helping others to fix same problem!!)

Have a great day everyone! I'm getting closer to fixing everything on this laptop!

    Of course! (slaps forehead)

    Hi whs:

Sorry for typing long again, I can't do one setence questions (I've tried my whole life!)
Thanks for the one sentence easy to understand answer!

(Yes I knew UK vs Chinese owners of the companies when I checked their certificates before downloading (yes I'm one of those who still looks at the fingerprints before accepting items, yet I still get stuck with junk programs!)

Thanks again (so sorry for the long long post above---took long time to write it too!)

    Progress Report

    Hi Everyone!

I didn't forget about this thread....
Just downloaded the WAIK (Windows Automated Installation Kit)
Used third party Roxio to burn to a DVD
Now I'm ready to install it into the computer so that AOMEI can detect it and create a Windows PE Rescue Boot Disk just for that AOMEI Backerupper program as whs pointed out in earlier post.

(Oh and made a Restore Point in case anything I did causes problems)

Thanks everyone! will let you know how it goes soon (or edit message to fill it in)

for this question is not going to be a simple one two three answer

and those familiar with my writing know I am going to be writing long long long
    on this issue.

Thanks for reading this.... follow link above to new question!
