Windows 7 Home Premium keeps changing System Restore allocation amount

I typically have it set to 3-4% of the 320 GB drive Windows is on but every so often it insists on changing it to 50% without my consent. What is causing this? This is on the 64 bit version of Home Premium also.

It's probably Avast setting it to 50%
It's a known problem, and i think Avast NG is what does it.

    EDIT:
Here's a recent Avast forum thread about this:

Maybe it was, my version was 2015.10.2214 before I updated again. Let's see if this does the trick..

I see it changed to 25% from 3% on the new version but I'd rather it not touch my system settings at all.

From what i found following the link in post #2 they say this issue should be fixed in a release in June.
Guess it's up to you if you want to wait till then and see if the issue is fixed.
Or, you could try uninstalling the Avast tool that seems to cause this issue, Avast NG (aka VM/Sandbox).
If you want to continue using it the way you have it now, keep on eye on Restore Points.

I just updated a FREE Avast 2014 version to the latest Avast 2015 version using the in program updater.
The update installed the Home Network Security and Secure Virtual Machines (VM) tools without prompting.
They were not installed in the 2014 version.

I used Programs and Features to change Avast and uninstall these tools.
So far that seems to have worked.

I don't want any extra Avast tools, just the basic free protection.
I don't use System Restore, I use System Backup Images.
Backup Images are a FULL backup, Restore Points are not, and Backup Images are more reliable and controllable.
