can't do system image back up

Hello everyone again...I am still have a problem trying to do a system image backup.....after it runs for a few hours it fails with this reason "the system cannot find the file specified 0x80070002" After about 6 attempts this is the most recent error. I did a disk check and a disk clean-up today on the external drive , don't know if this will help?

I think as i have read something to do with the auto updates in windows. I am running win7 pro 64 bit....
I am trying to back up my c>drive and trying to back up in an external drive with over 700 mb of free space. After its done it does create a folded in that drive titled "windows Image backup"

The last time I ran a successful image backup was about 3 years ago.

If anyone can help me with this, it would certainly be appreciated...Thanks Much Jim :):)

    A few hours ?

A system image should complete in minutes, not hours.

How much free space is on the external ?

"Over 700 mb of free space" tells us nothing.

What program are you trying to use to create the image ?

    Windows ? Macrium ?

    Thanks for the reply......

I sorry that was over 700 gb of free space on the external drive of a 2 tb drive......

As I understand it, its doing a mirror image of my c>drive which is 608 mg on a 1 tb drive. I assumed it would take some time....

I am using windows 7 to do the back up ....

I can only suggest you try using Macrium.

    Macrium Reflect Free

Over 3 years is a long time, Windows could be seriously corrupted.

    had same problem

I had the same problem. Mine was due to trying to image my SSD to a 5 TB external drive. When I tried using an external 250 GB drive, it worked fine using Win 7 64. There is something about 2TB that imaging will not work.

I would try a smaller drive.

You may be better using this:

    AOMEI Backupperv2.5 Local Download

Pretty easy to operate, I suggest you do an image, that will be stored in a file on the target drive. Clone writes directly to the target drive

Thanks gang, I tried both the Macrium and Boothupper and the boothupper was so easy to use...did the system backup which I assumed is the a system image restore? And the created bootable media....Now how can I tell if the boothable media does work?
I mean is there a way of testing it out?

I also notice that Macrium and Boothupper did not recognize my H external drive...when I went to disk management that drive was not showing active, so is that the reason.....and if so how would i make it active..............Thanks again Jim
